Hiking the Grand Canyon can be one of the most exciting and exhausting
ways to see the Grand Canyon. No matter how long the hike takes
you and how tried you get once you have seen the wonderful views
that hiking the Grand Canyon has to offer every step will be worth
it!
There are many different ways to hike the Grand
Canyon and many different trails to take. However the Grand Canyon
does offer some stand routes that most visitors take. The Corridor
Trails as well as a Rim to Rim hike are both popular ways to see
the Grand Canyon.
Corridor trails include the Bright Angel Trail, the South Kaibab
Trail and the North Kaibab trail. The Bright Angel Trail starts
at the South Rim, passes through the Indian Gardens and ends at
the Colorado River. The South Kaibab Trail begins at the South Rim,
continuing to the Colorado River where it meets with the River Trail.
The North Kaibab Trail begins at the North Rim, passes by Roaring
Springs, Cottonwood Campground, Phantom Ranch, and Bright Angel
Campground on its way to the Colorado River. For more information
on these hikes visit www.grandcanyonhiker.com/traildata/corridor.shtml
Rim to Rim hike is a 25 mile hike that goes from the North Rim of
the Grand Canyon to the South Rim. This hike can be very difficult
and requires planning. A Rim to Rim hike takes about 3 days and
2 nights to complete. There are some logistic challenges when doing
a rim to rim hike, for example when you reach the opposite rim how
to do get back to your car that is on the rim you started from?
A permit to spend the night camping in the Grand Canyon is also
required. For permit info call Back Country Rangers 520-638-7875.
